WPL 2026 kicks off today with Mumbai Indians vs RCB opener
The fourth edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 officially kicks off today, 9 January 2026, promising to be the most competitive season yet following a massive mega-auction in November that reshuffled squads and introduced new leadership across franchises. Defending champions Mumbai Indians begin their title defence tonight in a blockbuster opening clash against 2024 winners Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
Tournament format and structure
The tournament runs until 5 February with 22 matches across Navi Mumbai and Vadodara. The five teams—Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Delhi Capitals, UP Warriorz, and Gujarat Giants—play a double round-robin format, with the table-toppers heading straight to the final and the second and third-placed teams meeting in the Eliminator on 3 February.
The 22-match season is split across two legs, with the first 11 games at the DY Patil Stadium and the remaining league fixtures and playoffs at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara. The final will be played on Thursday, 5 February, in Vadodara.
