WPL 2026 Final Preview: DC vs RCB - Capitals Eye First Title
Delhi Capitals chase their first WPL title on the fourth try as they face Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the 2026 final at Vadodara’s BCA Stadium tomorrow. After three heart-breaking losses in previous finals, captain Jemimah Rodrigues leads a side peaking at the right time.
Delhi Capitals’ Trophy Drought and Road to Final
Delhi Capitals have made the WPL final every year since 2023 but lost all three - a jinx they desperately want to break. This season started rocky with three losses in four games, but they bounced back strongly in Vadodara, winning four of five league matches to finish third. They sealed their spot by thrashing Gujarat Giants in the Eliminator.
Former DC fielding coach Milap Mewada is confident. “Every day is a new day. They must stay positive, make smart decisions, and believe in their momentum,” he said. DC boast the best fielding record with an 83.6% catch success rate, grabbing 41 catches and dropping just eight.
Their bowling has fired lately, with four bowlers in the top 10 wicket-takers: young pacer Nandni Sharma (16 wickets, including a historic 5/33), N Sree Charani (14), Chinelle Henry (12), and Marizanne Kapp (10).
Key Battles: Shafali-Lizelle vs Lauren Bell
Analysts say the final hinges on DC openers Shafali Verma and Lizelle Lee against RCB’s new-ball ace Lauren Bell. The duo has three 50-plus stands, all wins, averaging 40.11 runs at 8.84 run rate - second-highest aggregate of 361 runs. In the Eliminator, they smashed 75 in the powerplay.
Mewada backed them: “Lizelle is made for opening. If Shafali and Lizelle bat 6-8 overs, even 200 is chaseable. Their momentum is key.”
RCB, led by Smriti Mandhana, topped the table with 12 points from six wins in eight games. They recovered from two losses with a big win over UP Warriorz. Grace Harris and Mandhana’s opening pair leads with 383 runs.
Head-to-Head and Venue Stats
DC hold a slight edge, winning six of nine against RCB. At Vadodara, both teams shine: DC six wins from eight, RCB four from six. This season, DC won five chases, RCB four chases and two defences.
RCB’s middle-order rescues by Nadine de Klerk and Richa Ghosh have been vital. Lauren Bell’s powerplay control is their weapon.
Jemimah Rodrigues has grown as captain, keeping just two changes all season for continuity. Her batting strike rate is up, but she must cut fancy shots.
Why DC Can Finally Win
DC adapted best to Vadodara’s tricky pitches early. Consistent selections kept morale high even in losses. Historically, Eliminator winners lift the trophy - good sign for DC.
Mewada’s advice: “Don’t dwell on past finals. Handle the three hours well, take right calls, play calm.” With top fielding, peaking bowling, and explosive openers, Delhi looks ready to end the jinx against a strong RCB.
