Rishabh Pant gave fans a big fitness update ahead of IPL 2026, saying he’s working hard and getting better every day. The star India wicketkeeper-batter shared his recovery journey while speaking at the World Pickleball League event as co-owner of Mumbai Pickle Power.

Pant’s Road Back from Injury

Rishabh Pant has been out of action since January 10, 2026, when he suffered a right-sided internal oblique muscle tear during practice in Vadodara. A throwdown specialist’s ball struck him above the waist, forcing him to miss key matches. The 27-year-old has been putting in the hours at BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

“My fitness is getting better day by day. I am working hard at the Centre of Excellence and I think I’m going to be out (on the field) soon,” Pant said confidently. Fans have been waiting for this news since his injury sidelined the explosive left-hander from India’s T20 World Cup campaign and recent series.

Staying Connected to Cricket During Recovery

Pant opened up about the mental side of long injury layoffs. He stressed how important it is to stay linked to the game during tough rehab periods. “When I am injured, one thing that always keeps me close to the game is the love for the game and the support from the people around you,” he shared.

The Delhi lad spoke from experience, having made multiple comebacks in his career. His near-fatal car accident in December 2022 kept him out for 15 months, but he returned stronger in IPL 2024. This side strain feels different, but Pant’s approach remains the same - relentless hard work and positivity.

Every comeback has shaped his mindset. “Every comeback has taught me something about life. It has taught me more gratitude, how you see things around you, and wanting to be committed to something that really makes you happy,” Pant reflected. The biggest challenge? Missing the thrill of top-level competition.

“When I am injured, the thing I miss the most is really enjoying the game. You love the game so much, but you also enjoy it while playing it at the top level. That’s something I miss truly,” he admitted honestly.

Preparing for IPL 2026 Return

Pant knows IPL 2026 will be his big stage to prove his fitness. Lucknow Super Giants hold his IPL rights after picking him in the mega auction. LSG fans dream of seeing Pant’s helicopter shot and lightning glovework back at full power. His last IPL season in 2025 saw him score 446 runs at a strike rate of 155, showing he’s still a match-winner.

The wicketkeeper-batter isn’t resting on past glory. “As a cricketer, you always have to keep adding to your game. I need to keep looking to get better in each and every aspect of my overall gameplay,” Pant said. Whether it’s improving his keeping angles, shot selection, or leadership, he’s focused on growth.

What This Means for Team India and LSG

Pant’s return will boost both LSG and India across formats. With KL Rahul also recovering, LSG needs Pant’s aggression in the middle order. For India, his dual skills make him undroppable in T20s and vital in Tests. His hunger to improve comes at the perfect time with the 2026 home Test season and Champions Trophy looming.

Pant’s journey inspires young cricketers facing injuries. From surviving a horrific crash to battling muscle tears, he’s shown resilience defines champions. Fans count the days until Rishabh Pant pulls on the gloves again. With his passion intact and fitness improving, IPL 2026 will witness the Pant storm return bigger and better.
