He put on an 80-run opening stand with Abhishek Sharma, who made 24 off 17 before retiring out, giving India a flying start inside the powerplay.

The highlight of Ishan’s knock came in the fifth over when he tore into Anrich Nortje. Ishan smashed four sixes and a four in that over alone, with 29 runs coming off it. Even when Nortje tried to bounce him, the ball hit the blade and sailed over fine leg for another six. Ishan walked off immediately after reaching his fifty, making sure everyone got batting time.

India Batters Maximise Warm-Up Opportunity

Abhishek Sharma looked a bit off-colour but still managed three fours and a six during his stay. Tilak Varma, fresh from proving his fitness after an injury, raced to 45 off 19 balls with three sixes and three fours before Marco Jansen cleaned him up. India skipper Suryakumar Yadav made 30 off 16 balls, though he was dropped on 18.

Vice-captain Axar Patel hit some lusty blows for his 35 off 23 balls. Hardik Pandya then provided the late fireworks, smashing three sixes and two fours in his 30 off just 10 balls before falling to Corbin Bosch. Rinku Singh added 16 but was struck on the helmet earlier in his innings.

India finished at a massive 240 for 5 in 20 overs, with Marco Jansen being the only South African wicket-taker with 1 for 18. This was the perfect hit-out for the Indian batters on a familiar Wankhede pitch.

Ishan Kishan’s form comes at the perfect time after his 103 in the final T20I against New Zealand last week. He’s now set to open alongside Abhishek Sharma when India face their first match on February 10 at Wankhede Stadium.
